Say what you like about the UK Labour party, their sense of timing is atrocious. The Labour Party in the UK is currently led by Keir Starmer, Keir Starmer's previous significant job was as Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for England and Wales from 2008 to 2013. This role involved him as the head of the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), where he was responsible for overseeing prosecutions, including those related to grooming gangs.
If you have peeked into X recently, the topic of "Grooming gangs" ie rape gangs in the UK exploded recently as Elon Musk began to take notice and J.K. Rowling weighed in, leading millions of followers to read up on the horrible history where children were prostituted by grown men - all covered up by and even aided by social workers, police, and court systems that failed these children. Julie Bindel wrote about this in "Mothers of prevention" back in 2007, and asked "Why are the authorities so reluctant to get involved?", but somehow the world did not take notice then, and now people are horrified to realize that the authorities actually aided in the abuse.
That's when the Labour party drops this Zootopia-like advert on TikTok.
Aside from the fact that the ad looks like a fever-dreamed Zootoopia, the song is a terrible choice. Sure sure, it sounds cool, and the lyrics barely have time to begin, but let's look at these lyrics;
Você quer sexo agressivo
Vou deixar sua bunda ardendo
Vou dar tapa, tapa, tapa, tapa
Tapa pra caralho
Pra caralho
Pra caralho
Toma, toma, vai no toma, toma
Toma, toma, toma
Toma, toma, vai no toma, toma
Toma, toma, toma
Em quatro paredes
Eu vou acabar contigo, oi
Em quatro paredes
Eu vou acabar contigo (toma, toma)
Oi (toma)
Em quatro paredes
Eu vou acabar contigo (toma, toma)
Oi (toma)
You don't need to be fluent in Brazilian Portuguese to understand that the first line reads; You want aggressive sex? It doesn't end there, the rest of the lyrics continue with lines like: "I'll leave your ass burning", "I'm going to slap, slap, slap, slap" and "I'm going to end you (take, take)".
This is released just as the entire world is speaking about girls being raped and systematically abused for at least thirty years in the UK. The media, which dubbed it "asian grooming gangs" are only one part of the complicit cog as they used that euphemism to downplay what the girls suffered, while police, social workers and the Crown Prosecution Services did their part in letting abusers walk free or just get a slap on the wrist. And this is the time they decided to release this advert? Talk about tonedeaf.
Unbelievable, only Labour could do this !

PermalinkHey, so I understand the music. They are trying to get up in the algorithm on Tiktok and this song is a current trend. Having said that, this is the real issue with creating 'advertising' on social media when it is simply joining in the same trends as everyone else and hoping the message spreads.
Also that AI slop looks atrocious.

PermalinkI agree about the sloppy look, the part where the nurse tries to cross her arms is especially messed up.
