Images with messages threatening Israel were displayed on a digital billboard in the north suburbs of Chicago. The Village of Northbrook issued a statement saying local police were informed of the billboard content around 5:30 p.m.
The billboard, located near Interstate 294 between Lake Cook Road and Deerfield Road, displayed messages including "Fuck Israel" and "Death to Israel."
U.S. Representative Brad Schneider posted a statement on X:
"I am aware of the hateful, antisemitic billboard signs located on Edens Spur Tollroad in Northbrook, one that says “F*$% ISRAEL” and one that reads”DEATH TO ISRAEL.”
This disgusting, intimidating display has no place in the 10th District, or anywhere in America.
It is notable that this sign is located in a community with a large Jewish population, in close proximity to a Jewish day school, at the beginning of the Jewish holiday of Sukkot.
I have spoken with local police and reached out to the company that owns this billboard, calling for its immediate removal and an explanation of how it came to be posted. I will keep our community posted as we receive updates on this unfortunate matter.
Northbrook's Village Board condemned all forms of hate speech, expressing solidarity with the Jewish community and affirming the town's stance on inclusivity.
The Jewish United Fund of Chicago also acknowledged the incident, reporting that OutFront Media believed the billboard may have been hacked. I wonder how? We could save so much media spend if everyone could just hack any digital billboard out there.
Northbrook police reported receiving numerous complaints about the billboard's content on Wednesday.
The displayed messages referenced "Paid for by MrBeast LLC," although no connection to the actual YouTube personality MrBeast was confirmed.
OUTFRONT Media shared a statement with FOX 32 Chicago, saying they were aware of the incident.
"Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We are aware of this incident. The copy has been removed and the situation is being investigated."
