Suntory Red - campaign from 1966 to 1967, print, Japan

Suntory Whisky ran a campaign with experimental layouts and the same models for a couple of years. This is a very rough translation of the first image.

"Go for it, go directly under the sun, drink it Red!

Summer is here, the long-awaited summer. A bottle of Red is a must for your vacation. With this bottle, your vacation will be remarkably enhanced. After running, jumping, leaping, and dancing in the sun, Red... your lips will sing! Summer is the season for youth. Play and play, drink and drink."

In 1968 the Suntory campaign replace the photographs of young men with a little red man character instead.

Somehow, these ads just got more surreal and experimental over the years. The illustrator was clearly having fun with this collage-like format. Below, the young men are popping out of "holes" just like the sun.

The illustrations got a bit wilder as time went on, whales, lightbulbs, etc could be seen as part of the layout.

The deep red with stars one below has something to do with night.
