Way down at the bottom of this Reuters article about XXX domains PETA stakes a claim at PETA.XXX and promises to launch a porn site.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals also signed up. However, instead of blocking its name, said PETA spokeswoman Lindsay Rajt, the organization will launch peta.xxx as a pornography site that draws attention to the plight of animals.
They're no strangers to pornographic imagery, or even porn stars as both Ron Jeremy and Jenna Jameson have posed for them, though they might have selected Jenna because she suffers from duckface. Their supposed super bowl ad of 2009 was rejected because getting down with vegetables was deemed a bit too steamy for TV. There's no mention of what type of animal abuse that will be showcased on this future PETA porn site, but we expect both chicken strangling and monkey-spanking at the very least.
Reactions aren't positive, and they are full of jabs at PETA's tried and true tactic of exploiting human women in their mission to save animals.
Jezebel says: "Finally, they can skip the "we love animals!" charade and get right down to bringing us the tits they've been all about showcasing this entire time." Business Insider calls it already in the headline: "PETA Takes Its Sex-Crazed Marketing To The Next Level By Launching A Porn Site"
What will be on this porn-site? CBSNews blog quotes PETA's Ashley Byrne : "We are preparing to launch our own peta.xxx site, but instead of just showing people our iconic ads, we then show them how animals suffer for entertainment." while noting "Sorry, PETA, this move seems seriously misguided. After watching porn, no one wants to eat carrots and sign a petition. No one. "
I'd rather asphyxiate my anaconda than support PETA.

PermalinkIf PETA wants to stop the harming of animals, why'd they create ads that make guys want to flog their donkeys?

PermalinkIf PETA is so serious about not exploiting nature, why didn't they go the extra mile and fake the bunny, too?
