Can Shane Gillis save Bud Light? This ad, a parody of perfume ads generally and Johnny Depp "Savage" ads specifically, show Shane being utterly confused by everything around him, including the sudden snake that unexpectedly appears as a necklace on the woman next to him.
"Hey, I think I'm in the wrong commercial" Shane notes, speaking to some sort of commercial god/director above. "Wait, you're not Andre?" the director voice shoots back. Turns out that Andre is at a bar eating buffalo wings and loving life in the actual Bud Light ad Shane was supposed to be in.
Very funny, Bud Light. Even though parodying perfume ads has been done before.
But it wasn't artsy perfume ads that made people stop drinking Bud Light, it was specifically a man pretending to be a woman in a bubble bath that offended everyone so. But I'm glad Bud Light is back on track and engaging Shane Gillis, who is a quite funny comedian, just as he heads out on tour around America. He can be seen in a comedy club that sells Bud Light near you soon.

This is Bud Light trying to make amends with Conservatives by hiring Shane Gillis who was canceled by SNL before he even started on the show for wrongthink or whatever. I think that ship sailed for that demographic though and they won't be coming back.
I don't know if this was associated with an ad agency or if Bud Light reached out to Shane to make it.
He can be forgiven for not knowing the history of advertising since he's a comedian and doesn't work in advertising but it's kind of a fun comment on the tropes.
At the same time the bar is kind of low for humor in advertising right now so anything that elicits a chuckle is at least a move in the right direction.

PermalinkThanks, I didn't know the context of Shane Gills being cancelled by SNL.
I too seriously doubt they'll win anyone back that permanently walked away from the brand. There are plenty of light beers to choose from for the calorie conscious. But I am glad to see that they're bringing back the humor that used to be synonymous with the brand.
