Mercedes-Benz - Electric cars and ecocheques (2016) case study (Belgium)

Mercedes-Benz enlisted the help of BBDO Belgium to launch their new all electric B-Class, and got a very different idea created for them. BBDO creatives found it a pity that they could not use their so called ‘ecocheques’ to pay for the car, so they became lobbyists demanding that ecocheques should be able to go to the purchase of not just bikes and energy saving fridges, but also electric cars. Belgians get ecocheques as a part of their salary and these were launched to incite people to consume eco-friendlier items, so that eventually Belgium would reduce their carbon footprint. After successfully lobbying for the inclusion of electric cars to be paid by ecocheques, BBDO simply announced the news by... wait for it... advertising on the envelope of the ecocheques. So smart it hurts.
