Forging ahead into 2013, creative collective Poetica has signed Aron Baxter to their expanding roster of top-tier talent. Aron joins as Senior VFX Artist, bringing with him an impressive resume with two-plus decades of experience, having garnered numerous awards and praise over his varied and exciting career.
Previously, Baxter was employed by Nice Shoes in New York as Creative Director working with major clients like X-Box 360, IBM, Audi, AT&T, Under Armour, Bulgari, and talent like Lady Gaga, Kanye West and Beyonce. A driven creative thinker, he developed and directed commercials, music videos, and short films, including his own special effects-driven short film, “Heartbreaker,” which was an Official Selection for the Big Apple Film Festival in 2011. In 2005, Baxter was appointed as Visual Effects Supervisor/Artist, and Department Head at Nice Shoes sister company, Guava Studios. Baxter oversaw and took responsibility for creative direction on a number of projects for American Express, Goodyear, Folgers, and GMC.
When describing the impetus for his jump to Poetica, Baxter was unequivocal. “Poetica’s creative energy, production capabilities and amazing team were all key factors in my decision to come on board,” he noted. “I’m excited to help grow the studio into a center for further creative thinking and excellence, while maintaining the reliability and impeccable service that Poetica currently provides.”
Baxter’s unique and dynamic style stems from a broad range of formative influences. Starting his career as a freelance graphic designer and working in London for a period between 1989 and 1992, Baxter graduated with a degree in Graphic Design and Visual Communication from Nottingham Trent University and a certificate from the Graphic Design Foundation at the Ravensbourne College of Art. He then got his first big break working on Tim Burton’s Batman as the Pre-Production Art Department Supervisor.
After finding his feet in the industry, he transitioned into a position with the prestigious Moving Picture Company in London, beginning his career as a Visual Effects Artist. Working on titles such as Golden Eye, Les Miserables, and Muppet Treasure Island.
Separate of his VFX and directorial work, Aron stays busy publishing editorials and op-eds on the VFX and film/television industry, bringing to bear a great deal of insight and commentary to the field. “Aron is someone who is creative in so many ways,” noted Poetica Managing Director Rachelle Madden. “Not only does he add another source of incredible talent to the Poetica team with his VFX work, but he is truly a team player and possesses an amazing, positive attitude when it comes to problem solving of any kind. He’s always thinking about new and better ways to work and that is a quality that is invaluable to us and to our clients.”
