De Beers Avoids A Bomb With Ode To Mom

De Beers has decided to kiss its upcoming Mother's Day campaign goodbye.
Why? Blame it on Saddam.

Diamond giant De Beers has withdrawn its Mother's Day advertising campaign after its tag line, targeted at increasing diamond jewellery sales, was found to be too similar to Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein's "the mother of all battles" war slogan.

The sorting, sales and marketing arm of the De Beers group of companies, the Diamond Trading Company), said the series of black and white ads carrying a tag line that read The mother of all Mother's Day gifts had been replaced by the ad campaign used following the 9/11 terror attacks on the United States.
