Cannes cyberawards pick jury.

Considering entering some work into the prestigious Cannes lions award show this year? Do so, the awards have high quality, good competition (from all over the world) and the week of the show is a blast. However, if you want to enter the Cyber-lion awards - you might spend your money better elsewhere.....

The Cyberlion in Cannes hasn't exactly had the great reputation as the other categories of the Cannes Lions have. Interactive design varies from great to beyond mediocre as in all the other categories, and the interactive design community have long complained that this part of the Cannes awards is not taken seriously enough by the Lions. This year the Cyberjury will be lead by Ulf Dahlsten from Sweden. He is president of Icon Medialab. Perhaps they think that a very serious name might show that the Lions do take the award seriously... But wait.. Before this Ulf Dahlsten was president of the Swedish Postal offices. When he joined Icon the stock dropped 75% in a month. Arguing whether he is a bad or brilliant leader of a multinational company though is not the point - the point is he has never designed anything in his life - much less anything interactive. How can he then judge interactive design? This may be the last nail in the coffin for the Cyberlion. On a less somber note - Bob Isherwood , Creative Director from Saatchi&Saatchi in New York is the man heading up the Jury for the popular press, poster and film categories. For those of you who can read swedish - I suggest you follow this link to Resume - there are some very funny and sarcastic comments posted here.
