Jean Kilbourne, Ed.D., launched a movement to promote media literacy in the late 1960s to prevent the problems and public health issues she saw, including violence against women, eating disorders, and addiction. The connection was advertising and media. She is internationally recognized for her groundbreaking work on the image of women in advertising and her critical studies of alcohol and tobacco advertising, and if you never heard of her before, today would be a good day to give her a few minutes of your time.
