Santogold will set the tune for Bud Light Lime - Miller responds with Brazilian singer Curumin

Reuters reports indie music for beer launches

The national campaign for Bud Light Lime will feature the music of multigenre performer Santogold. A remix of her song "Lights Out," as well as the ringtone, will be released online next week at budlightlime.com.

In addition, a CD sampler, with up to 18 tracks, will be released in June to tastemakers and music blogs. Tentatively titled "Bud Light Lime + Fader Presents," it will feature existing music from such indie labels as Downtown Records.

Disclaimer: I'm a huge fan of Santogold. Here's some lovely to listen to (inside)

Thanks for the song samples, "you'll find a way" is great.

Great music. She appeared on Later... with Jools Holland last week, so you should be able to catch that on the Web, either at the BBC site or elsewhere.

Santogold was also featured in an interview in this month's Dazed & Confused.

This song stuff is now becoming de rigueur for brands; we have Mercedes Benz and Audi doing it on the automotive side (BMW did stories instead). Now we have beer brands doing it.

With so much free music available, is this the new way for artists to make money? It used to be considered selling out, but is it still so? There was backlash against Magnetic Fields' Stephin Merritt doing the Volvo song, so maybe...

If an agency wanted to use one of my tunes for an ad, I'd do it right away. It didn't hurt Low's reputation, did it?

I don't disagree, certainly in today's music market. It's hard enough to make money from being a musician so I think I'd do the same, unless I wanted to avoid all commercial interest in my music. Which kinda defeats the point of making music...

She's an original Philly girl (i.e. from Philadelphia, PA, USA - home of the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall, etc.) - also, my home town, and the nearest large city to my current home (~20 miles/25 minutes to the center of town).

It's also not the first time she's "sold out" to advertising. This current (rubbish rubbish GAK kill me now) VO5 extreme style ad has her funky tune in it. *sob*
