January 19, 2021, Los Angeles, London—Ridley Scott Creative Group’s RSA Films has signed award-winning filmmaker John S. Park for commercials and branded content in the US and UK. His cinematic visual technique and innovative storytelling can be seen in work for brands such as Samsung, Guinness, Hyundai and Peugeot, often blending photo-real VFX with epic live-action. Park is well versed in both narrative and documentary disciplines, and brings a distinctive flair for art direction, styling, music and casting which grounds his work in the cultural moment.
“We are big fans of John’s body of work, and are thrilled to have him on board,” said Buddy Brakha, Executive Producer, RSA Films. “He’s a filmmaker in the truest sense, telling entertaining and personal stories in innovative ways, with a deep understanding of cinematic language that makes him a very original voice for commercials, branded entertainment and immersive films.”
“I am delighted to be part of a team with a great tradition of producers and auteurs,” Park said. “I look forward to new opportunities and delivering my best work for this extraordinary company and its clients; together we’ll make an impact in this exciting new decade for our industry.”
Park spent his formative years in Los Angeles where he earned his degree from UCLA and studied film at Art Center School of Design. He is part of the Korean New Wave cinema seen most notably in his ability to blend the worlds of East and West and traverse cinematic genres with ease. His cinematic range is illustrated in Samsung “What Does Your Mind See” (winner of the Grand Prix at Spikes Asia and Cannes Lion Gold), which features intimate portraits of sight impaired people capturing their sensory experiences on camera; while Hyundai “A Message To Space” (winner at Cannes Lions, One Show and Spikes Asia) is a blockbuster-styled tale of a daughter’s message etched on earth, seen by her father from his post in space. Park’s work has also garnered awards from LIA, Creative Circle, CLIO, Adfest, AdStars, NY Festivals and more.
Currently, he is prepping two global campaigns for multinational brands and has a sci-fi feature film in development.
