I don't expect much in production value when it comes to political organisation ads, they're not raining money to spend on Hollywood directors. So setting that aside, it's more interesting looking at what the ad is saying.
This ad shows a dad who coaches his teenage daughter in running, a sport where XY individuals with DSDs took all of the medals in the 800m dash back in Rio Olympics, 2016. Clearly upset after the race, GB athlete Lynsey Sharp said “Everyone can see it’s two separate races so there’s nothing I can do.”
That isn't just the potential future for this adverts athlete, in the ad she loses a race to a boy, and complains to her dad that it's not fair. Simple as that, and it really isn't.
So the ad speaks directly to fathers, saying that they have to show up, to vote, for their daughter's future. The premise and storytelling is fine, but the piano-score isn't great.
I don't think the score is needed to pull on dad's heartstrings though, it's all the other shots of dad and daughter Harper having their own body language with each other that will. All dads have a little body language bond with their kids, I think that is universally recognized.
So Mom's for Liberty want Dads to vote for Trump, to protect their daughters. Got it.
