Microsoft decided to focus on what unites us instead of what divides us this holiday season. And they decided to do that by focusing on activism in fighting for transgender rights, refugees from the Syrian civil war and taking a stand on the Black Lives Matter movement. There wasn't actually a mention of the holidays, so don't expect Christmas, Hanukkah, and even really The New Year to make an appearance. So what you have this year from Microsoft is a holiday ad that isn't. Which is kind of weird. At least they got the message of love and peace and unity, right though. The problem is, when you champion some groups while leaving other groups out, you risk offending the "what about us," crowd. So it's a riskier ad than it seems.
