Johan Camitz's killer finally in court.

Lil' Kim's ex boyfriend Damion World Hardy and members of his crew were indicted yesterday on federal charges of alleged drug dealing and murders. NY Daily News, and SOHH write:

Davis was shot twice in the back outside Club NV at Spring and Hudson Sts. in SoHo on Aug. 10, 2000. Davis, who later died from his wounds, tried to flee in a car, but lost control and killed an innocent bystander; Austrian [sic] filmmaker Jhoan [sic] Camitz.

It's been five years since we posted "Johan Camitz died yesterday, hit by a car after a shootout", telling the bizarre tale of the shootout which killed a driver of a Range Rover, which then ran over Johan.

Johan was strolling home after dinner and was on the corner of Spring Street and 6th ave. Two blocks up, on Hudson Street, Ivory Peanut Davis was in his black Range Rover when the killer stepped up and shot him. Ivory managed to start his car and hit the gas, but lost control. The car charged down the street, ran over Johan and crashed into a cafe.
Johan was at the top of his directing career, having recently won the coveted Lion in Cannes, and made videos for the likes of Spice Girls and Eagle-Eye Cherry. He had only just moved to New York from Stockholm, Sweden in order to be in the center of it all and pick and choose between jobs available.

Johans mother in Sweden (not Austria), Inger Camitz said to reporters at Expressen in Sweden: "It feels good that the prosecutor is on the case now, somebody should be held responsible for this."

We don't know who is responsible for the consistent spelling mistake of Johan's (not Jhoan) name, and mistaken nationality (Swedish, not Austrian) in all the US papers and music-mags. Seems only Newsday got it right: "Davis tried to flee and drove his SUV onto the sidewalk, killing Johan Camitz, an award-winning 38-year-old director from Sweden, the documents said."

Well, the "spelling mistake" is years old. If you look at old reels from Cannes and Shots his name has almost always been spelled Jhoan. I didn't know him, but perhaps he found the spelling funny, 'cause he was known as Jhoan internationally all through his career. Or maybe his name actually was spelled Jhoan...

Maybe he kept the strange spelling in order to be exotic. "Johan" is after all as common as "John". But where they got the idea he was Austrian, I don't know. *shrug*
