Hub Strategy, the San Francisco-based integrated creative agency, has partnered with The Utility Collective to design their first-ever consumer product: ready-to-hang artwork printed on 12-inch x 18-inch maple veneer wood panels to support Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. These are being sold here on The Utility Collective website and plans are underway to sell the product at retail. Ten dollars from the sale of each piece will be directly donated to Sea Shepherd.
Sea Shepherd is best-known for their aggressive protection of whales and dolphins from illegal whalers, and is featured in the Animal Planet series “Whale Wars.” This project, from Hub and The Utility Collective, reflects this protection of defending the defenseless.
For this project, four designs were printed. The first design is a whale firing a harpoon from its blowhole. The second is a seahorse entirely made of twisted, dangerous-looking metal. The third is of a narwhal flying the Sea Shepherd flag from its tusk. And the fourth depicts a diver offering a tulip to a shark.
“This project was a uniquely gratifying one,” said Peter Judd, design
director at Hub. “By combining our illustration talents with Eric's product
design experience we were able to create a fun line of products for a good
organization we both wanted to support.”
“Last year Hub, as a holiday gift to clients, did a series of T-shirts that were inspired by the efforts of Sea Shepherd,” said Eric Pfeiffer, co- founder of The Utility Collective“ They gave me one of these T-shirts and I really loved the design. Part of our mission at The Utility Collective is to give back on every product we create so it was natural for us to get involved and develop the prints with Hub.”
