I saw this a while back on the back of ESPN the Mag, and there's a TV spot with the same copy too.
I like this, and the whole underdog, us vs them tone is perfect for US soccer (them being mainstream American sports, not so much the rest of the world).
That's a karaoke mic in the middle, a TV remote control on the right and the one on the left looks vaguely like the toy I got for my sister's baby girl.
I kinda like the whole Project Mayhem-ish "We can't show you but we have it" headline, but I wish they didn't follow "We can't tell you about them" with a big chunk of copy doing exactly that.
From NY Times:
A few weeks back, he said, he entered a contest for editors’ assistants sponsored by the New York chapter of the Association of Independent Creative Editors. The challenge? Take any movie and cut a new trailer for it — but in an entirely different genre. Only the sound and dialogue could be modified, not the visuals, he said.
Mr. Ryang chose “The Shining,” Stanley Kubrick’s 1980 horror film starring Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall. In his hands, it became a saccharine comedy — about a writer struggling to find his muse and a boy lonely for a father. Gilding the lily, he even set it against “Solsbury Hill,” the way-too-overused Peter Gabriel song heard in comedies billed as life-changing experiences, like last year’s “In Good Company.”
What's great about this is that Jack Nicholson really does play that same character in horror flicks and romantic comedies.
Ask and it shall be delivered: 30 second spot (The Community)
I like this spot, but yeah, more than that, I like the fact that it's there. I appreciate that you can have a high-production, conceptual ad in a category that is otherwise devoid of creativity.
Sure, some people hate it, but for people who get it, BK is their brand. It's branding at its best.
By the way, today's Boondocks had a great take on it
You know what's creepier than Baby Bob? Finding out that Baby Bob is a baby girl.
Not that I have a problem with lesbians. Just ones that aren't even a year old and talks like a 50 year old guy. Otherwise, I love lesbians.
I'm not sure how you can do a commercial referencing DeNiro, NYC and the Tribeca Film Festival without a 9/11 reference.
I mean, WTC is practically in his backyard, and Tribeca was one of the neighborhoods most affected by 9/11. The film festival is Bobby's baby, and he started it in large parts to undo the attacks' economic damage to Lower Manhattan. You pretty much have to have WTC in there.
