For those of you who have been following along, we've begun to change up some of the questions in Ad Chat. And now it's time to get to know Andy Kinsella, Innovation Director at Glue Isobar. Keep up with him on his blog at https://www.andykinsella.com/ or on The Twitter at @hellokinsella.
What’s your favorite funny story about yourself?
At my first glue Xmas party I attempted to take a swan dive off the boat into the blackness of the River Thames....dressed as a rapper. There’s been a few. Most aren’t for broadcast.
Which piece of art (movie, book, music, painting, etc) has influenced you the most? How or why?
I love sci-fi futures. They bend reality and create worlds where anything is possible. It’s not a bad place for your imagination to live. Films like The Black Hole, E.T, Star Wars, Star Trek, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Alien, and Blade Runner had a massive impact on me growing up - as did the dark, stylised worlds of David Cronenberg and David Lynch. I’m was also really into album art by Peter Saville and Farrow Design
Who was your favorite mentor and why?
I’ve never had a mentor but I’m lucky enough to work with a bunch of super talented people from all sorts of disciplines. I’m at my happiest surrounded by smart people who get it.
What’s the one thing that excites you about the future of advertising?
It’s the future. We are making it now. We can make it ‘less crap’ and ‘more interesting’.
If you could meet anyone in history (dead or alive), who would it be and why?
Jesus. I’d like to see what all the fuss is about.
What’s your favorite website/blog, and why?
Twitter as it covers such an incredible spectrum of information. This line from @huey sums it up nicely. "Twitter is like a hotline into the brains of all the brilliant people you admire."
What campaign or project are you most proud of?
adidas ‘Run’ with D Rose.
I’m proud of lots of work, for different reasons but to make it easy I’m picking the most recent one. This campaign was to celebrate the launch of the MVP (Most Valuable Player) Derrick Rose’s latest signature shoe, the adiZero Rose 2. Throughout this week, Derek posted clues on Facebook of his journey from the adi concept store to a secret location in Chicago. If you find the location, break the code, and get there in time, you could be lucky enough to run with the man himself. But if you didn’t live in Chicago we streamed the whole event live on the adidas Basketball Facebook page.

Toyota ‘Get Your Energy Back’.
We’ve launched a few great projects recently but I’m choosing this project from last year. The campaign was produced using the latest 3D projection mapping techniques to showcase the unique technology inside the Toyota Auris Hybrid and the vehicle’s extraordinary ability to recycle the energy it uses. We used the one-off event in Shoreditch to generate content which was used across the web in online media, social video, as well as digital outdoor and cinema ads.

Who is your advertising hero and why?
I don’t have advertising heroes so I’m going with Steve Jobs for making design a chief element of product strategy and Jonathan Ive for the breathtaking designs delivered by Apple.
Tell us one of the things on your bucket list and why?
Drive an F1 car. Really hard.
What piece of advice do you wish someone had told you when you were starting out?
Work hard. Keep smiling. Enjoy it.
