Coke's AI holiday ads got everyone talking, and not just about the weather. Enter Zevia with a snarky comeback, saying, “Hey, fake soda, meet real soda.” Actually, the VO says “the perfect time to get real and try Zevia,” but with a tone if you know what I mean.
Zevia's ad kicks off with an AI nightmare: Santa’s now on a drone, polar bears are gift-gobbling, trucks are playing bumper cars with snowmen, and someone's got too many arms for one cola. Oh wait, they have more than one cola too.
The voiceover quips, “when animals come bearing gifts, random trucks enter your town and artificially generated people hold up artificial sodas for no reason.” Then, bam, real humans with real Zevia, because apparently, that's what counts as "naturally delicious" these days.
Zevia's CMO, Kirsten Suarez, basically said they saw Coke's AI mess and thought, "Hold my organic, non-GMO soda." They turned their campaign into a full-on roast of Coke, hoping to remind folks there's a less suspicious, more real option out there.
“We decided to quickly pivot some of our scenes to portray a timely culturally relevant message about Zevia’s benefits, now as a holiday parody ‘poking the polar bear.
We hope the ad entertains but also starts a conversation and drives consumer awareness that Zevia is a great option to help people ditch fake, artificial beverages. We’re proud that Zevia is naturally delicious and not suspicious—with zero artificial flavors, sweeteners, colors and zero sugar.”
This marks Zevia's biggest "We're here, we're natural, get used to it" moment since they started back in '07. They're throwing this parody out there on social media and TV, probably hoping the internet will do the rest of the PR work for them.
And hats off to Multi and AdWaken.AI for making the AI scenes look like they should be in a sci-fi horror flick. So in the end, we're fighting AI ads with AI ads.
