We shape the metal, you shape it's soul.
This is an extended cut of the film that will run on the super bowl. Celebrating the 75th anniversary of Volkswagen in the United States, it's a nostalgic ride that even pays homage to old superbowl VW ads. No GTI's in trees though. Shame.
Actually, I think the whole ad is a shame, when you have a brand with an exceptional history in advertising - the VW brand was the spark that began the creative revolution in the U.S.A with ads like "Funeral", "Torture test","Don't laugh" and "Snowplow" - how do you manage to make something so bland for the Superbowl? There's nothing wrong with the ad, the editing and music is fine, it just feels like we've seen this before in so many ways, and there is only one reference to earlier work. The Darth Vader kid. You had the entire creative revolution to nod to!
Showing "punch buggy" tradition via Bart Simpson was a nice touch.
