Saw this last night. I love that Toyota approved an ad mocking the crap that clients give to Creatives. Not sure that it would resonate with the average consumer though. Sort of ad people talking to ad people...but since I'm ad people, I like it.
to me it doesn't look like the "client" they're mocking, it's just a really recognisable situation. The gal could be a graphic designer/AD and thats her boss, and apart from the words chosen, like 'logo bigger' and such, hasn't everyone met that kind of senior something boss? The kind that says "were you at the same meeting?" and rips everything apart?
I thought it was funny, but the AD sure doesn't look like the creatives around this hood - she's very corporate, so I think corporate types in all sorts of jobs 'get it'. It's the situ, not the job. ;)
I think this ad just appeals to ad people. How many people outside of the biz would appreciate the "make the logo bigger" or "do you want me to get you some help" rants?
The first time I saw this was after a day just like hers. I related, I commiserated, and for some odd reason, I felt like a roll in a drop top might just make me feel a bit lighter inside.
I agree. You don't have to be an art director or "in the ad biz" to get this spot. Anyone who suffers through the daily grind at an asshole factory will get this. The fact that she's getting reamed for improper font use and the wrong color yellow only makes it a bonus for those of us who ARE in the business.
