I guess it may be that gas stations are associated with young, sexy but rebellious women who tend to wear skimpy but somewhat ragged or dirty clothes and drive motocycles, trucks or old-syle convertabiles.
I thought it was an intentional homage to the 1992 ad - that they repeated it in 2002 anyway... (Maybe they can't afford New Ideas as they spend it all on famous tarts or something.)
This ad reminds me too much of the Cindy Crawford ad...
