the New York times reports that : Shephard Fairey Is Fined and Sentenced to Probation in ‘Hope’ Poster Case.
Cliff notes of the case via our resident IP nerd:
Shephard Fairey filed a Complaint in Federal Court which contained lies and faked info.
Shephard Fairey provided false documentation to support that Complaint.
Shephard Fairey then created multiple fake items to support his contentions in that Complaint.
Shephard Fairey also destroyed emails and other electronic records which showed he was lying in all of the above stuff.
Shephard Fairey withheld other documents which were ordered disclosed during the case.
and now the conclusion: Shephard Fairey fined $25,000 for tampering with evidence in the case and put on probation for two years.
Government prosecutors had argued that Mr. Fairey should serve time for his actions and he faced up to six months in prison. In February he pleaded guilty to a criminal contempt charge after admitting that he had destroyed documents and fabricated others to try to conceal the fact that he had used a particular Associated Press photograph of Mr. Obama as the source of his well-known “Hope” campaign poster.
