M&S - Christmas Clothing & Home (2024) :90 (UK)

M&S's latest Christmas ad took a wild turn, seemingly ditching Santa for a splash of eau de parfum. The result? An ad that's as festive as a piece of lint in your pocket.

Our protagonist, a young girl, steps into what might be the dullest family Christmas ever, not a single "Merry Christmas" in the air, and the Christmas tree looking like it's in mourning. Then she finds a magical snowglobe that promises to jazz up the joint.

Cue the transformation... or at least, what tries to be one. The house looks like it was designed by a robot with a festivity module missing. Where's the messy joy of Christmas? The cozy chaos? Instead, we get a silent film of people smiling like they've been told smiling would save them from an alien invasion. The tune they dance to is so unremarkable, you'd forget it before the ad ends. This one's a skip, unless you're into watching a high-concept, low-spirit holiday scene. Meh.
