Missouri Lottery wants people to stop faking joy over bad gifts

A new spot from the Missouri Lottery, created by Kansas City-based creative agency Barkley, pairs lottery-winning reactions with the landfill-worthy gifts that are commonly exchanged at a company holiday party.

“Unfake the Joy” shows coworkers displaying over-the-top reactions to their coworker unwrapping a snowman mug, which was most likely regifted from a prior holiday party. “No one ever won half a million dollars from a coffee mug,” says the voiceover at the end of the spot.

The slow motion spit-takes and assailing bowling balls were captured using high-speed cameras to create super-slow motion. All of the destructive celebrating was done in camera, and not through special effects.
