International Talk Like A Pirate Day Campaign

So word on the street is that Sept. 19th is Talk Like A Pirate Day. It's a fairly old holiday (about 16 years old) but I have never heard of it until a friend of mine sent me a note about it.

International Talk Like a Pirate Day is a parodic holiday created in 1995 by John Baur (Ol' Chumbucket) and Mark Summers (Cap'n Slappy), of Albany, Oregon, U.S., who proclaimed September 19th each year as the day when everyone in the world should talk like a pirate. According to Wikipedia, an observer of this holiday would greet friends not with "Hello," but with "Ahoy, matey!"

Furthermore, it appears that Sears Holdings' mygofer service will be celebrating Talk Like A Pirate Day all week! From Sept. 18 until Sept. 24, visitors to mygofer.com, will not only be treated to a swashbuckling spectacle, but they’ll be able to nab their own treasure by using the SAVEYERBOOTY coupon code during checkout for $5 off a $25 purchase. The mygofer.com website has pirate themed decorations all over it.

I checked Target and Walmart to see if they are celebrating this holiday, but appears they are opting out of this one.
