PermalinkYou are way behind the times. According to the articles in the 30's, 40's, 50's and 60's (in Popular Mechanics, etc.), we were supposed to have the jet packs and the flying cars no later than 1980!
Of course, Doctor Who had his own robot dog - K-9, who has recently shown up on "The Adventures of Sarah Jane ", staring the original Sarah Jane Smith, Elizabeth Sladen. (He first appeared with her, sans Doctor, in the "K-9 and Company" special in the 90's[?]).
And yes, we can now own an Aibo, and other such robot dogs.
