Google Maps error led company to demolish the wrong house

Billy Nabors Demolition made a huge mistake the other day, and are blaming it on Google Maps. Contracted to demolish a Tornado-damaged house on 7601 Cousteau Drive, Google maps directed them to 7601 Calypso Drive, where they came in like a wrecking ball and tore the duplex down. WFAA reports that Nabors CEO George Gomez refused an on-camera interview but said the crew assigned to the project thought they tore the correct home down until they realized they made a mistake and added the situation is "not a big deal."

But the city of Rowlett sees it differently. "I think this is a huge deal," city manager Brian Funderburk said. "The homeowners were in the process of trying to figure out what it was going to take to repair their home and now they're looking at rebuilding it instead. I think this is a very big deal."

Billy Nabors Demolition received so many angry comments on Facebook that they deleted their entire page. Not everyone has a social media manager who can weather a viral storm. Google maps did have the address wrong, but has corrected this now. One of the home owners, Lindsay Diaz, just gave the demolition company a new tagline: “That’s what their job is -- to wreck it in demo, and they really wrecked my life” Diaz said.
