This is a parody of the 1993 "Steam Roller" commercial, the first one where Chevy Chase was the spokesperson. This is deliciously self-deprecating, as Chevy Chase was abruptly cancelled from his own talkshow at Fox only four months after it began.
Below is an older upload of this BBDO spot that parodies the 1993 ad "Steam Roller."
Client: Frito-Lay
Ad agency: BBDO
Creative Director - Copywriter: Michael Patti
Creative Director - Art director: Don Schneider.
Director: Joe Pytka
Production company: Pytka
Principal talent: Chevy Chase
This was actually a spoof. Chevy Chase had a talkshow in Sept. 1993 and it totally bombed. When the executive is talking about how "he's not getting the ratings", that's how his talkshow got cancelled. I also liked the last line by Chase when the old lady took the bag of chips, "tough year, good chip". This was a great spot.
