Apple wants you to "Get a Mac"

Last night Apple unveiled a new ad campaign "Get a Mac" continuing on its course to get PC folk to make the switch. In fact, it's very similar in tone and feel to the "Switch" ad campaign of 2002, which spawned oodles of spoofs and made Ellen Feiss semi-famous.

Ads feature a man in a suit as the PC and a hip, young guy as the Mac. There are six different ads in the campaign that speak to ways in which Macs are better than PCs.

I can't exactly put my finger on it, but it seems like these ads all lack something.... Also, if they wanted to portray PCs as unhip, why use the new guy from the Daily Show? Surely there are plenty of other dowdy-looking actors who could've been the PC.

Hmm, they're not very funny. How do you get PC-people to switch when you make fun of them (without being funny)? We'll see how it works I guess. Network was the only one that got close to a sell-reason.

They might be funny to a younger college-type crowd, whiich is a smart target to aim at as they are only just forming their computer habits and soon have bigger paychecks to come. But I don't see how this convinces PC users to switch.
