Visit the Salvador Dalí museum, and Dalí himself will take a selfie with you

As a huge fan of Salvador Dalí this is fascinating to watch. Goodby Silverstein and Partners have brought Dalí back to life, with a truly interactive installation that allows for the Dalí museum visitors in St. Petersburg, Florida, to interact with Dalí.

The exhibition is called Dalí Lives, and the life-size re-creation of Dalí responds to viewers with literally hundreds of thousands of possible conversations, making each interaction feel quite unique. By using archival footage of Dalí from interviews, they used over 6,000 frames and 1,000 hours of machine learning to train the AI algorithm on Dalí’s face. Dalí's facial expressions were then imposed over an actor with Dalí’s body proportions, while quotes from his interviews and letters were synced with a voice actor who could mimic his very unique accent, a mix of French, Spanish, and English. The result is as if you are speaking to Dalí himself. How surreal!

All in all, this concept is very nicely done. Dalí looks quite real and even the logo has a bit of Dalí irreverence in it.

With 45 minutes of newly created footage Dalí can do all sorts of things that make him feel like he's really there, right now. He can comment on the weather, he can read the today's New York Times, he really feel like he never left this earth back in 1989. As Dalí himself said: 

 “I believe in general in death, but in the death of Dali, absolutely not."

Dalí Lives opens on May 11th as a permanent exhibition on what would have been his 115th birthday.
