As congress prepares to vote yes or no next month on a nuclear deal with Iran, President Obama is facing a growing amount of skepticism. Many senators have stated they will vote against the bill, although words and actions are hardly the same in politics. With President Obama's recent statements that those who don't support the deal also risk going more war, that skepticism is turned into outrage, especially among those whose voices should be heard in this matter, but aren't: veterans.
As of today, that's changing. A non-profit (and non-partisan) organization called Veterans Against the Deal has launched a new campaign from the voice of vets, urging Senators to vote no on the deal. It is currently running in states where some Senators may be on the fence about which side of history they'd like to be standing on when they vote next month.
The first ad features Retired Staff Sgt. Robert Bartlett who was blown up by an Iranian bomb, leaving him disfigured. in addition to that horrible day, he also describes witnessing atrocities at the hands of Iranian terrorists who came into villages, killed children and forced the villagers to do their bidding. "Every politician whose involved in this will be held accountable. They'll have blood on their hands," he says. The ad ends with Bartlett urging those in Montana to call Senator Jon Tester and urge him to vote no on the deal.
As far as political ads go, this one eschews the over-the-top theatrics, (except perhaps for the music) and exploitive imagery. No bloody photographs. No crying victims. Instead, Sgt. Bartlett sits quietly on his sofa and tells you what he thinks. By choosing to shine the spotlight on a vet who sustained a casualty a decade ago, the ad also reminds us that Iran's past actions suggest the chances of "peace in our time," are historically slim.

PermalinkI am a USAF WIFE, but more importantly an American. If Congress allows this deal they will be supplying aide to terrorists. More than that to deal with Iran is a betrayal of America.

PermalinkHey Barry, if you were anywhere near Beirut International Airport in the summer of 1982 (the siege) I might have played soccer with you (I found a few American soldiers that played with me during their breaks). I was ten.
As for the ad, his lines are very good. I'm assuming that the writer/director has asked them to speak from their hearts & then tightened things up, as the line "what do you think they're gonna do when they get more money" is painfully targeted to the viewers emotion. Ouch. Well done. Are there more ads coming?

PermalinkStaff Sergeant Bartlett, thank you for your service and sacrifice for our great Republic. You are correct, Iran will not change their stance on killing Americans. God Bless you and thank you for keeping my family safe

PermalinkIran is still the enemy, but one has to deal with its enemies. What is the alternative? This deal is about one thing only, delaying Iran getting the bomb. Do we really want to go to war now?

PermalinkMy name is w. wolaver I am a 173 Airborne Brigade Staff Sgt. Vet. In Viet Man 1967-1967 two bronze stars and a purple heart awarded. I did not fight in Viet Nam just to give our country away under this president. We must fight against this "Deal" and stand up FOR Israel. Our nation is a mockery to every other country in the world and I am ashamed, not of my nation but of our leaders.

PermalinkI find this ad absolutely egregious and despicable. He fought in Iraq because of Bush, not because of Iran! People need to think and realize that this deal is the best and we need to look forward to a future free of nukes. Without the deal, the Iranians have nothing to lose but to get a bomb. UGH, what is it about money that talks so much. Senator Blumenthal claimed he was in Vietnam, so how does it feel to go to war? He should know if he was there! PLEASE SENATOR BLUMENTHAL, DO THE RIGHT THING FOR THE CITIZENS AND VOTE FOR THE IRAN DEAL!

PermalinkAN OPEN LETTER TO THE PRESIDENT AND THE SECRETARY OF STATE
Topic: Negotiations with the Government of Iran; Muslims’ doctrine called Taqiyya, which permits them to deceive their enemies when doing so will be advantageous to Islam’s cause
We write you simply as concerned citizens of America.
As you seek a treaty with the government of Iran, surely you are aware of the Muslims’ doctrine called Taqiyya, which permits them to deceive their enemies when doing so will be advantageous to Islam’s cause.
Here are some quotes from their founder himself, the prophet Muhammad:
Bukhari 3,49,857 Muhammad said, “A man who brings peace to the people by making up good words or by saying nice things, though untrue, does not lie.”
Bukhari 4,52,267 Muhammad cried out, “Jihad is deceit.”
Bukhari 5,59,369 Bin Maslama volunteered to kill an enemy for Muhammad, then said, “Give me permission to deceive him with lies so that my plot will succeed.” Muhammad replied, “You may speak falsely to him.”
Bukhari 8,78,618 Abu Bakr, the prophet Muhammad’s closest friend and adviser and first convert to Islam, said, “If I make a pledge and later discover a more worthy pledge, then I will take the better action and make amends for my earlier promise.”
If deception to an enemy is advantageous to Islam, it is not a sin.
If you are aware of this, Sir, how can you make an unverifiable, unenforceable agreement with any nation whose guiding religion provides that they may lie to “unbelievers”? If their first allegiance is to Allah, why should they remain true to an agreement with any other power?
We agree with you that diplomacy is better than war, but please, for the sake of all of us, don’t be deceived by those to whom dissimulation is a tenet of their religion.
This is the ultimate Catch 22: If you should require them to agree to forgo Taqiyya in their dealings with you – well, you get the picture.
Just know that whatever agreement you reach with them is not worth the proverbial paper it’s printed on.
On the other hand, Sir, as you try to placate the followers of Islam, both here and abroad, what are Christians to think when your administration insists we comply with practices forbidden by our Scriptures, while labeling our freedom of religious expression as “hate speech” and pronouncing those freedoms as unlawful?
What are we to think of your leaving our faithful ally, Israel, exposed to the malevolence of their sworn enemy? Just because Iran has tempered its bellicose ranting doesn’t mean its goals have changed – first, destroy the Little Satan, Israel, then the Great Satan, America.
We call on our friends to join with us in praying for you in your crushing responsibilities.
Respectfully,
Jimmy and Carol Owens
