George Patterson Y&R Melbourne and Foster’s Australia have refreshed the long standing VB theme music in a departure from the current campaign. The blue singlets and stubbie shorts traditionally associated with VB were replaced by black ties and tuxedos as 95 musicians from the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and Orchestra Victoria took to the stage at the Melbourne Concert Hall. Performed solely on 451 VB bottles and 6 timpani drums, the VB Symphony recreated the 40-year-old VB theme music, note for note. The ad is part of an online campaign which can be viewed at VBSymphony.com.au.
The musicians collaborated with renowned conductor Cezary Skubiszewski who designed and invented an array of new instruments to allow the performance to come together.
Art director Ben Couzens said, "At first we weren't even sure it was possible, but with renowned conductor/composer Cezary Skubiszewski's help and after a few early tests we knew we were onto something quite amazing. The result speaks for itself."
Three months of development and rehearsal were required before the VB Symphony was ready to be performed on stage at the Melbourne Concert Hall.

I thoroughly enjoyed that. I love VB. Sadly unavailable in the States, but plentiful here in Denmark!

PermalinkI loved Skubiszewski's laugh. Like a kid in a candy store.
