The Democratic National Debate was last night, so of course a pro-union Anti-Walmart ad would air. In this Choddy some very serious people in black and white are speaking directly to camera while a sad piano plays about how they are treated like they don't matter by upper management who is only out for a buck and couldn't care less about them and treat them as disposable.
And I was like, oh is that an ad about people who work in advertising? Because I hear that every day. But then they got into the reduced hours and benefits part and I was all bummed out. The spot ends with a website, because it's 2000 again. Since it's paid for by The United Food And Commercial Workers Union I assume they want Walmart workers to unionize or something. I don't know because I didn't bother visiting the website. I do know the UFCW's PAC spent more than 11 million dollars during the 2014 election cycle so it's not like they too aren't big business.
The fundamental flaw with the ad is they aren't telling us anything we don't already know. We know CostCo and WalMart are wanting to make a profit; they've been demonized for years. And we already know people are having a hard time all efforts on the part of the Obama administration to fix it have not worked. The economy is still stagnant and nearly eight years later it still sucks unless of course you are on Wall Street. This is not news to anyone.
The spot would have been more effective if they'd given me a solution, or giving me hope. Speaking of hope, did you see the Democrat debate? They sure put the "White," in Red, White and Blue, huh? Be sure to vote for the old rich white person of your choice next year. I'm sure Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders shop at WalMart every week, so they totally understand the plight of the working man.
