T-Mobile says that this planned Super Bowl ad, starring Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski, was rejected due to a protected rights deal with the NFL’s official telco sponsor, Verizon.
The concept is a flashback to a phone call between Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski, where Gronkowski is golfing in Florida and suggests Brady retire.
Without the T-Mobile 5G network, however, a lot of the words in the call were dropped, and that's why you're seeing Tom Brady together with Gronowski playing for the Tampa Bay Buccanners in the Super Bowl LV 2021.
According to T-Mobile, the ad got banned even after edits because of “the protected rights deal” with the “official telco sponsor.” (*cough* Verizon *cough*)
