In 1997, the seasonal theme park Opryland was shut down and replaced by an enormous outlet mall called Opry Mills. Built on the tears of Tennesee children, the mall failed to earn its owner company as much money as the theme park once did, and in desperation, they chose to have Kathy Griffin talk about "the Mills effect" in the hopes of attracting shoppers. Spoiler alert, it didn't work. The mall was flooded 10 years after the commercial, as it's built in a known flood zone, so the tears of Tennessee children had their revenge.
