The Seattlepi reports that the Star Wars droid R2-D2 has a new job - to collect mail.
The post office is wrapping mail collection boxes in some 200 cities nationwide in a special covering to look like R2-D2. It's part of a promotion for a new stamp to be announced March 28, said Anita T. Bizzotto, the post office's chief marketing officer. "It's a little teaser for the upcoming announcement and we decided to have a little fun with it," she said.
Now watch out for star wars fans stealing mailboxes. ;)
I don't get why they aren't selling these by itself. Hello? Die-hard Trekkies + Pretty cool idea = Goldmine!

PermalinkYeah! Really - they should sell these when the campaign is over. It's a limited number of mailboxes too so that would still be pretty cool to have.

PermalinkSince it is just a special wrapping, the USPS will remove the temporary R2-D2 covering when the campaign is over. They might sell the covering, but not the collection boxes.

PermalinkMaybe they'll have replica R2-D2 mailboxes that people can buy.
