Pirate Radio (Canada) shows us how much fun you can have with radio. Or is that tells us?
Claymore told me, that I do know, tips hat.
You may not recognize the name Bill Woodson, but fans of the Sixties sitcom The Odd Couple will surely recognize the voice. Bill read the opening monologue for this classic show starring Tony Randall and Jack Klugman. And in the current campaign for Toronto.com, his distinguished, authoritative, dulcet tones provide a beautiful juxtaposition to some pretty racy content. It's kinda like listening to your old high school principal talk about how nipple clips snag on wool sweaters and jingle when you run.
Backed by a very targeted media buy on CFNY, this campaign drew huge interest immediately. In fact, measured website hits went through the roof everytime the ads ran. They still are.
Rather than over-produce the spots, Brent Peterson and Tom Greco of Roundtable Advertising opted for a clean read with nothing but
a simple mnemonic to help underscore Toronto. com's tagline. In short, nothing gets in the ear's way of listening to Bill's earnest delivery of the script. Smart. A fine example of the classic 'less is more' approach to radio. Not to mention a very cool and understanding client.
