This utterly weird ad shows a garrison in Mbongoland under siege in 1879, just like in the 1964 film "Zulu", but here the UK soldiers smoked silk cut for two weeks and then refuse to switch back. Taking the piss out of blockbuster films and advertising at the time, this served up comic relief in cinema advertising with all the soldiers fighting and saying "sorry!" as soon as they killed someone.
Trivia: On its initial release in 1964, "Zulu" was one of the biggest box-office hits of all time in the British market. For the next 12 years, it remained in constant cinema circulation before making its first appearance on television. It then went on to become a television perennial and remains beloved by the British public.
