The asylum agency offers support to all employees at the embassy who want to drop out and seek asylum with this new poster campaign, written in Russian, that has been placed outside the Russian Embassy in Stockholm.
The text of the poster reads:
"Dear security service workers and other employees of the Russian Embassy.
Is it hard for you to go to work? Do you feel ashamed at the end of the day?
Soon it may be too late to quit.
Contact us for a consultation on political asylum. We offer coffee! ”
Daniel Carnestedt, a lawyer at the Asylum Office explained in an email:
"We want to convey to employees at the embassy that we understand that it is very difficult to represent a state that engages in such abominations as we have seen in Ukraine. Many Russians are against the war and they deserve our full support, this also applies to any war opponents who work at the embassy. We wanted to remind them that there is still a way out. We also wanted to convey to those at the embassy who are hesitant to take a stand against the war that it is soon too late. Another effect we were looking for was to make Ukrainian citizens laugh. After all, it can be seen as a bad sign when a law firm starts doing targeted advertising outside a workplace."
He adds: "Then it was probably also a way to show support for Ukrainians. Much like everyone who put up Ukrainian flags outside Russian embassies around the world"
A single poster won't be the largest media spend, but Daniel Carnestedt and his team are relying on social media to take the message further. He even tweeted it out himself:
Stockholms mest nischade reklamkampanj är inledd! Brukar ni åka buss, @RusEmbSwe? pic.twitter.com/3GHYFMBO7s
